Johnston Middle School Bands

9th Grade Concert Band Selected to Perform at 2010 IBA Conference

Congratulations to the JMS 9th Grade Concert Band!  Based on an audition CD
that was submitted in late January, the 9th Grade Concert Band has been
invited to perform at the 2010 Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in
May. Selection to perform at the IBA Conference is the highest honor
bestowed upon a middle school band in the state of Iowa.  Our performance
will be on Friday, May 14 at 9:00 a.m. at the downtown Des Moines Marriott.
Congratulations as well to the JHS Jazz Syndicate; Jazz Syndicate has also
been invited to perform at the 2010 IBA Conference.  To have two ensembles
representing Johnston at the IBA Conference is truly an honor.

Congratulations on Iowa All-State Band Selection

Congratulations to 9th grade flutist Vivian Wu. On Saturday, October 24, Vivian became the fourth ninth grader in Johnston band history to be selected for the prestigious Iowa All-State Band! Selection to the All-State Music Festival is the highest honor a high school musician can receive in the state of Iowa. While it is an impressive accomplishment at any age, it is especially impressive to be selected as a freshman.

Congratulations to 8th Graders Selected to SCIBA District Honor Band

The following musicians were selected by audition for the SCIBA 8th Grade Honor Band: Amy Nihart and Nick Gearhart, Trumpet; Cameron Redshaw, Bass Clarinet; Karen Chen and Brooke Stephens, Clarinet; Chandler Bakken, Tuba; and Vaibhav Srikaran, Horn.

The top 22 students (1-2 from each section) then go on to represent our district at the IBA All-State 8th Grade Honor Band in May.  Two of these 22 students were from Johnston--Amy Nihart and Cameron Redshaw.
